A thank-you for stretching vines touching each others finger tips. For people pouring wine after wine meant for sampling sips. A little bit of land where a cottage sits surrounded by trees, Enough beds, chairs and couches for all eleven of our family. This blessed fire defending us from the cold outside. Kangaroos, cockatoos and enough time for peace of mind. A warm host (Linda) who eased us back in. Back in to the sweet smelling Australiana that in our hearts always wins. The occasional rude car zooms by, Trees and wind shushing then waving good-bye. My mother just reached sixty and is the reason for this trip. Listen and look, high and low and notice life’s little tiny bits. The hills are rolling away from this sun drenched balcony and soon we will be; Taking photos, taking memories.

I’m far too relaxed to head back home! Alas, I must, but will definitely be planning my next escape at my desk tomorrow. It’s hard to get my parents to go anywhere and now they are here they too don’t want to leave.

Elysium Vineyard is the home of rare aged vintages of Gold medal Elysium Limited Release Verdelho, awarded 92 by James Halliday, and described as "consistently successful" by wine writer Huon Hooke. The vines producing these wines come from root stock from the original 80-year old Tulloch vines nearby. For those who like a mature white, Elysium wines are made to age in the traditional Hunter style, but equally can be enjoyed as young, fresh wines. See the Review below. Elysium wines are on the lists of many top Sydney and Hunter restaurants. Guests enjoy a complimentary winetasting and Elysium wines are available for purchase in the cottage at cellar door prices.
In summer, enjoy a swim in the nearby Wollombi Brook wilderness area and a picnic on its sandy banks. Relax in winter by the open fire or sit on the verandah enjoying the mountains and sunset.
A private chef is available to serve lunch or dinner in the cottage or outside in the garden. Massages can also be arranged.
Ideally situated close to the Pokolbin and Upper Hunter vineyards and historic Wollombi village.
